Roof Leak Repair in San Diego

Water coming through your ceiling? We can usually be there the same day you call.

‍

A roof leak doesn't fix itself, and every rain makes the damage worse: soaked insulation, stained drywall, rotting decking, mold. Top Flight Roofing has been fixing leaks across San Diego County since 2000. We find where the water is actually getting in, repair it properly, and tell you honestly whether it's a simple fix or a sign of something bigger.

‍

While you wait for us: put a bucket under the drip, move furniture and electronics out of the way, and if the ceiling is bulging with water, poke a small hole in the center to let it drain into the bucket. It stops the water from spreading across the ceiling. Stay off the roof.

Why Roofs Leak in San Diego

‍

San Diego doesn't get much rain, so a leak usually shows up during the first real storm of the season, after months of sun have done quiet damage. The most common causes we see:

  • Cracked or slipped roof tiles. Tile is everywhere in San Diego. The tiles last for decades, but they crack under foot traffic, and the underlayment beneath them wears out long before the tile does.
  • Worn or missing shingles. UV exposure dries out asphalt shingles until they curl, crack or blow off in the wind.
  • Failed flashing. The metal around chimneys, skylights, vents and walls is one of the most common leak points. Sealant dries out and the flashing lifts.
  • Worn pipe boots. The rubber collars around plumbing vents crack in the sun and let water run straight down the pipe.
  • Clogged gutters and valleys. Leaves and debris force water to back up under the roofing.
  • Flat roof ponding. On flat and low-slope roofs, standing water finds every weak seam.

Finding the Real Source of the Leak

‍

The stain on your ceiling is rarely directly under the hole in your roof. Water gets in at one spot, runs along the decking or rafters, and drips down somewhere else. That's why patching the spot above the stain so often fails.

‍

We trace the leak from the inside and the outside: checking the attic for water trails and wet insulation, inspecting the roof around the area, and looking closely at the usual suspects like flashing, vents and valleys. Then we show you what we found, with photos, before we fix anything.

How Our Leak Repair Works

‍

  1. You call, we schedule fast. Tell us where the water is showing up and we'll get someone out the same day, or the next day at the latest.
  2. We find the source. Attic and roof inspection, with photos of what we find.
  3. You get a clear, free estimate. You'll know exactly what needs fixing and what it costs before any work starts.
  4. We fix it properly. Replacing damaged tiles or shingles, resealing or replacing flashing, new pipe boots, or repairing the underlayment and decking underneath, using quality materials from GAF and Owens Corning.
  5. We check our work. We make sure the area is sealed and clean up before we leave.

Repair or Replace?

‍

Most leaks are a repair, not a new roof. But if your roof is near the end of its life (roughly 20 to 25 years for asphalt shingles) or leaks keep coming back in different places, we'll tell you honestly whether repairs still make sense. Our guide to roof repair vs. replacement in San Diego walks through the decision, and a free roof inspection will tell you where your roof stands.

Roof Leak Repair FAQs

‍

How much does roof leak repair cost in San Diego? It depends on the cause and the roof type. A cracked tile or a worn pipe boot is a small job; damaged underlayment or decking costs more. We inspect and give you a free estimate before any work starts.

‍

Can you repair a leak while it's raining? We can often put a temporary cover in place to stop the water, then make the permanent repair once the roof is dry.

‍

Is a small leak really urgent? Yes. A slow leak can soak insulation and rot the wood underneath for months before you see a stain. The sooner it's fixed, the smaller the repair.

‍

Will my homeowner's insurance cover it? Sudden damage, like a storm, is often covered. Leaks from age and wear usually aren't. We'll document what we find so you can talk to your insurer.

‍

Do you work in my area? We serve homeowners across San Diego County from our base in Santee.
