1. Stay off the roof. A wet roof is slippery and dangerous, especially tile. The damage causing the leak usually isn't visible from above anyway. Leave the roof to a professional.
2. Contain the water inside. Move furniture, electronics and valuables away from the leak. Put buckets and towels under drips. If water is pooling in a bulging spot on the ceiling, carefully poke a small hole in the center with a screwdriver and let it drain into a bucket. That relieves the pressure and helps prevent the ceiling from collapsing.
3. Document everything before you clean up. Photograph water stains, wet insulation, damaged belongings and any visible roof damage from the ground. Your insurance claim will depend on these photos.
4. Get a temporary cover in place. Call a professional roofer to tarp the damaged area. A properly secured tarp keeps water out until permanent repairs can be made. Don't attempt it yourself in wet or windy conditions.
5. Call us. Tell us what you're seeing and we'll get a crew out to secure the roof.

Sudden storm damage is usually covered by homeowners insurance in San Diego, but it depends on your policy. Wear and tear or long-term neglect typically isn't. Report the damage promptly, share your photos, and keep receipts for any emergency work.
Be wary of uninvited contractors who knock on doors after a storm promising a "free roof" through insurance. It's a common scam. Work with a licensed local roofer you contacted yourself.
Once the leak is stopped, get a full roof inspection. Storms often loosen flashing, crack sealant or damage tiles in places that won't leak until the next rain. Our inspections are free, and we'll tell you honestly whether you need a repair, more maintenance or, eventually, a new roof. If you have a slow leak that isn't storm-related, see our roof leak repair service.
How fast can you get to my home? Usually the same day you call, and the next day at the latest. Active leaks and storm damage get priority.
Do you tarp roofs in the rain? We tarp whenever it's safe to get on the roof. If conditions are too dangerous, we'll help you contain the water inside and come out as soon as it's safe.
Can I patch the roof myself? We don't recommend it. A wet roof is dangerous, and a DIY patch rarely finds the real source of the leak. A professional tarp protects your home and keeps your insurance claim clean.
Will insurance cover my emergency repair? Sudden storm damage often is covered, depending on your policy. We document the damage so you have what your insurer needs.
How much does emergency roof repair cost? It depends on the damage and your roof type. A tarp to stop the water is a small cost next to repairing soaked drywall, insulation and flooring. After we secure the roof, we inspect it and give you a written price for the permanent repair before any work starts.
Do you handle tile roofs? Yes. We repair tile, asphalt shingle, flat and metal roofs.
